The Royal Ranger movement, from the Assemblies of God, is in a major scandal right now. It is believed that mover 80 children have been sexually abused in the Royal Ranger program.
At least 29 Royal Rangers leaders have been accused of sexually abusing boys in their care over the past half century, according to a review of lawsuits, police reports and news clips. The volunteers were often well-regarded: men with master’s degrees, sons of pastors or aspiring preachers themselves. One was a judge in Pennsylvania who pleaded guilty in 2021 to the corruption of minors. They lured their alleged victims under the guise of woodworking projects, rides home from school and games of Dungeons & Dragons.

The abuse came to light after a Royal Ranger leader in Florida had their storage unit sold. The new owner discovered a book of photos, titled, “Boys will be Boys.” The photos were of young boys, without any clothes. This was turned over to police, who then looked into the leader and that lead to more and more abuse cases.
As a child in the 80’s I have my own Royal Ranger story. Maybe I’ll post about it at some point. My situation and all the situations you read on this site have made me bitter to the Christian faith. I’m not bitter that people make mistakes, I’m bitter because these are church leaders (pastors, youth pastors, assistant pastors) who are arrested every week. These same pastors and churches are almost all highly political, judging the morality of others at every turn. I simply can’t find any value to the faith, as it seems to be a product of manipulation and control.
