Jon Paul Sheptok

Jon Sheptok was arrested on charges of possessing and distributing child pornography. He was a pastor and prison outreach minister for the First Montgomery Baptist Church.

First Montgomery Baptist Church

The church he was affiliated with is First Montgomery Baptist Church, who has released a statement:

https://firstmontgomery.org

What concerns me with the statement is the deniability it oozes with. The church states,

“The detective also informed me  that none of the alleged victims they have identified have any connection to our church or any of its ministries, including Blaze Christian Academy. While our hearts  break for the victims and their families, wherever they live, we are thankful to know that none so far are connected to our church or school.
The detective also informed us that no other adults associated with our church or or school are under investigation.”

Basically, the victims weren’t part of our church and no other members our church are being investigated so we’re all good. What a terrible public statement to make. Every statement should explicitly report the horrible nature of the crime and it’s being investigated. No need to add comments about “victims not belonging to the church.” That sounds like they just don’t care about the victims.
