The Christian music legend Michael Tait, whose hit song God’s Not Dead became an anthem for Donald Trump’s Maga movement, has been accused of sexually assaulting three men, two who believed they were drugged by the rock star in the early 2000s, according to a months-long Guardian investigation

Commentary
I left this under scandal as I’m not sure he will be charged for his actions. Tait has admitted to drug use and inappropriate touching of men. He admitted his actions spanned 20 years and it appears insiders knew the behavior was happening and worked to cover it up.
I remember as a teenager, in the 80’s I was listening to DC Talk, a Christian band. While I don’t remember specifically if Michael Tait was part of that band back when I listened, I do remember their classic “Jesus Freak.” Back then I was an evangelical believer. By the time I became an adult, I was disillusioned with what I saw from the the level of church leadership. Scandal after scandal and most are not ever reported outside the church leadership.
I didn’t realize, until I read the Guardian article today, that Michael Tait (singer for DC Talk and Newsboys) was endorsing Donald Trump. The Trump campaign using his song, “God’s Not Dead” on the campaign.
This is so typical and it triggers my cynicism. I’ve seen nothing grand come from the church. I know so many people sexually assaulted by leaders in evangelical churches it’s disturbing. Those “spirit filled” churches that think they have an inside spiritual guidance from God himself, are not spotting the problems in plain sight. Or, in this case, when it is spotted they cover it up so the guy can keep doing what he’s doing.
Jimmy Swaggart wasn’t a one time event, he is a prototype of typical Christian leadership. Preach against others, sin (or commit crime), ask for forgiveness and repeat the cycle.
